“Tom Morello Featured on New BABYMETAL Single “METALI!!”
After three collaboration albums and a handful of collaborative singles and EPs between 2017 and 2021, Tom Morello has certainly had his fair share of featured artists, and likewise has been featured on a number of albums and singles in that time.
Most recently, Tom Morello has teamed up with Japanese kawaii metal band, BABYMETAL, releasing single “METALI!!”. This might seem like an odd pairing, but Morello's collaborations have, in the past, spanned genres, from electronic to reggae and everything in between. This latest collaboration is a unique blend of Morello’s signature guitar style with BABYMETAL’s energetic, girl-group take on metal.
The song starts with a solo koto, before Morello’s guitar barrels in and the song picks up. BABYMETAL’s vocals are backed by both guitar and koto, which carries through the entirety of the song. In the chorus, Morello’s guitar overwhelms the continuous, plucky koto as BABYMETAL harmonizes with a formerly distinct, chanting vocal track. In the breakdown the koto comes to the forefront once again, before a cacophonous return to the chorus. Finally, Morello’s guitar takes over at the end and the song fades to an end.
