“Dance Metal Group Electric Callboy Cover Cascada’s “Everytime We Touch””
Covering and sampling 90s and 2000s hip-hop, techno, and dance pop has become a fad in
popular music over the past few years, but Electric Callboy takes a uniquely metal approach to
this trend with their cover of Cascada’s 2006 “Everytime We Touch”.
The German dance metal group released the single a few weeks ago, in the midst of a world
tour for their 2022 album TEKKNO, and their at once nostalgic and novel rendering of the 00s
club hit rounds out what must certainly have become a repetitive setlist after over half a year on
tour.
Starting by luring its listener into a false sense of melody, Electric Callboy’s cover sticks to the
original for the first verse and chorus— but where anyone familiar with Cascada’s “Everytime
We Touch” might anticipate an instrumental break, Electric Callboy follows up the chorus with
original lyrics, growled out by the band’s vocalist and keyboardist Kevin Ratajczak and backed
by an insistent drum beat and matching guitar. The song returns to a melodic second verse and
chorus before going into an electronic breakdown, crescendoing into a raucous pre-chorus,
followed by another melodic, synthy chorus. Electric Callboy rounds out their cover with heavy
drums and another short, angsty breakdown, and a final, melodic “‘Cause everytime we touch”
from lead vocalist Nico Sallach.
“Everytime We Touch - TEKKNO Version” is available on Spotify, and Electric Callboy’s cheesy,
overdone music video for their latest single is also (definitely) worth a watch. Electric Callboy will
round out the American leg of their TEKKNO tour at Palladium Times Square in New York on
September 15th before heading to the UK in October.
