New Single “friXion” from Stain the Canvas

Post-hardcore band Stain the Canvas’s new single “friXion” is a song, in the band’s words, about “the extremism of cancel culture”. The song utilizes a phonk-esque electronic instrumental track, paired with drums and electric guitar, that backs the song’s fluctuating, angry vocals that convey a sense of contempt and resentment, flawlessly.

The song builds slowly with a techno beat that transitions into a growled, whispered first verse backed by a steady, muted drum beat. A quiet vocal break bursts into a fast-paced chorus that begs to be moshed to.

The chorus fades into another quieter vocal and electronic verse, growled out with tangible spite. Layered vocal tracks, one screamed and growled and the other melodic, build a frenetic energy to a second chorus. An electronic breakdown builds to frantic guitar and synchronous, almost harmonized, growls and screams, before, after a second come down and build up, a chaotic meshing of vocal tracks bring the song to an energetic close.

With the release of “friXion”, Stain the Canvas have also announced the release of the deluxe edition of their sophomore album, All Fine / eniF llA,due out November 17th. In themeantime, you can listen to “friXion” on Spotify, and check out the official video on YouTube.
