SPIRIT LEAVES Release New EP “To My Detriment”

Our Friends in Spirit Leaves have finally unveiled their EP, "To My Detriment," and the anticipation was worth it. Since we sat down with the band, I’ve closely followed the band's journey through Instagram live, witnessing the dedication they poured into the production, mixing, and songwriting processes.

With lyrics, musical composition, production quality, and gorgeous artwork. Comprising of five tracks, including familiar ones like "Killjoy," "Pulling Teeth," and "Paradise In Ruin," the release introduces two previously unheard gems, "Hollow" and "Chaos Control." Although we get a little extra with “Chaos Control”, we get a music video by Herb Maximo.

“Chaos Control” starts out soft and ethereal, with sibilant drums and melodic vocals, before crashing into an energetic, emotional chorus. The beautiful, somber guitar solo and drum duet that follows conveys in almost as comprehensible a language as the song’s poignant, bittersweet lyrics “Chaos Control”’s message. The composition as a whole acts like a hand to guide the listener on a journey from confusion, through a push and pull of internal struggle, to clarity as the guitar and drum duet bleeds into a final chorus.

The band says that “Chaos Control” is “everything To My Detriment is from start to finish.”

To My Detriment  is thoughtfully arranged “from opening with the heaviest song to ending with what we call the prettiest one” as a way to take listeners along on a journey of self acceptance and discovery.
